5 Ways Energy Programs Can Support Your ESG Goals

Your choice of energy supply sources and certifications speaks volumes for your business.  Sustainability and ESG initiatives matter to your customers.  You can choose among gas or electric supply options or stand-alone products.  Most are sourced from the United States and Canada.

  1. Renewable Natural Gas (RNG): Reduce the carbon in your natural gas usage.  A specified percentage can be derived from organic materials such as food waste, animal and plant waste, and landfills. The gas is tracked via certificate when injected into pipeline and partnered with physical molecules at your meter.
  2. Responsibly Sourced Gas (RSG): Source your gas from wells or fields certified to meet highest standards of environmental stewardship, and physically delivered to your meter.
  3. Carbon Offsets: Reduce your carbon footprint with certificates representing the reduction one metric ton of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Offsets are retired on your behalf and structured for your business.  You can purchase offsets blended as a percentage of your gas needs or as a stand-alone contract.
  4. Renewable Energy Credits (RECs): Meet your clean electricity goals with certificates representing the positive attributes of clean power generated from a renewable source and tracked. Your claim to carbon reduction is based on the location of the facility generating the power.  You can purchase as a stand-alone product, 1 REC per MWh.
  5. Emission-Free Energy Certificates (EFECs): Offset your gas or electric usage with certificates representing a certain amount of emission-free power produced by a generator of nuclear energy. You can purchase EFECs as offsets of your electric or natural gas usage.  Typically 1 EFEC would offset 1 MWh of power or 3 Mcf of natural gas.

We can advise you to select the right solutions for your ESG initiatives.  You can fit your budget and invoicing preferences and accurately claim your environmental impact.  Availability and pricing can vary by market, and standards are developing quickly.  Contact us to learn more about how you can make your environmental statement.
